Rules and Guidelines

Participation in the Vienna Beethoven Competition signifies the agreement of each participant with the outlined rules and guidelines. Ensuring transparency and fair conduct, these regulations are paramount to the competition’s success.

Eligibility

The competition is open to all vocalists, regardless of nationality. Age limitations may apply to specific categories; please refer to individual category requirements for clarification.

Application Procedure

Participants must fill in the application form available on our website or per Google Form, providing all requested details. A non-refundable application fee is required upon submission. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Repertoire:

Participants are expected to prepare a specific set of pieces for each round, depending on their chosen category. The repertoire must include works from different periods of classical music, showcasing versatility and depth of understanding. Further details can be found in the individual category guidelines.

Performance

Each performance will be evaluated based on technical proficiency, interpretative skills, and the ability to convey the essence of the chosen pieces. Competitors must provide their own accompanists or request one from the competition, if available.

Evaluation

A panel of judges, renowned in the field of classical music, will evaluate each performance. The decision of the jury is final and binding. Participants are expected to respect the jury’s decision.

Prizes

The competition offers various prizes across categories. In addition to the monetary awards, winners may receive opportunities for concerts, masterclasses, and more. Specific details regarding prizes will be published ahead of the competition.

Conduct

Participants are expected to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct during the competition. Any form of misconduct may result in immediate disqualification.

We strongly encourage all potential competitors to read the rules and guidelines thoroughly. Compliance with these guidelines ensures the competition is fair, transparent, and enjoyable for all involved.

Eligibility

Musicians of all nationalities who have reached the age of 18 by the opening of the competition on October 8, 2023, or who have not yet reached the age of 37 and are currently enrolled in a music program or can demonstrate completed musical education at the time of registration are eligible to participate. Additionally, they must have registered on time with complete application documents.

Registration and application documents:

The registration for the competition must be sent to the following email address by August 30, 2023: competition@beethoven.institute. All necessary application documents must be completed truthfully and completely. The application documents include:

⬥  signed consent form
⬥  copy of passport or identity card (ID)
⬥  payment confirmation of the application fee of € 70.- to the following bank account:

⬥  Passport picture (JPEG-, or PNG-File)
⬥  Artistic resume (approx. 1000 symbols in PDF-format) with education and eventual participation in competitions
⬥  Certificates of the current or completed professional studies (PDF format)
⬥  Video recording of approx. 20 minutes of an artistic performance with a freely selected repertoire and an obligatory aria with an exact work description of the vocal piece and the key.
⬥  A link to your video recording (Youtube or Dropbox or Google Drive or OneDrive) with the  longest possible availability period (at least 4 weeks)

By signing the registration form, the competition participants confirm that they have read and understood the competition rules and the consent form and that they agree with them.
